The proposal is to be located on land to the north and south of National Road, Cilfynydd and is predominantly situated within the local authority area of Rhondda Cynon Taf with the point of connection at Cilfynydd substation situated within Caerphilly County administrative area.

The proposal consists of a development area of approximately 9.5 acres (3.9 hectares), with the area within the red line boundary being approximately 59.2 acres (24 hectares).

Battery storage has an important role to play in supporting the decarbonisation of our energy supply as it provides a balancing mechanism to reduce the risk of power shortages, blackouts and optimises the use of renewable energy generated. In periods when electricity supply outweighs the demand, the proposed development would provide the capacity to store electricity, which would otherwise be wasted. It will then return electricity to the national grid when baseload supply falls below the level of demand and there would otherwise be an electricity shortage.

We are progressing with design development, environmental and technical assessment work and have consulted with the public and local stakeholders. All comments received during the consultation will be considered when finalising the design and site layout of the development prior to submission of the planning application.

We held a public exhibition to share information about our plans and seek feedback from stakeholders and the local community. This drop-in event was held at:

Cilfynydd Rugby Club, Cilfynydd, Pontypridd, CF37 4HS on 12 March 2025 between 1pm and 7pm
